Sidhu will be detained by Punjab police on orders. Sidhu was earlier released on a Rs 1,000 fine. Now, the maximum possible punishment under Section 323 of the IPC is given to Sidhu. On May 15, 2018, the high court set aside the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts that convicted Sidhu of culpable homicide and sentenced him to three years in prison on the same charge but found him guilty of injuring a senior citizen. Despite finding Navjot Sidhu guilty of "voluntarily injuring a 65-year-old man", the Supreme Court released him from prison and fined him Rs 1,000. Later in September 2018, the high court agreed to review the application for review filed by the family members of the deceased and issued a notice to Sidhu about it.
